The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

Risk Management

RISK = SafeSoccer

Our focus is to improve the safety of the playing environment for all youth soccer players in Ohio South.

Recent abuse scandals have changed the landscape of youth sports nationwide forever. The details of these cases, and others since, have shocked us all. Federal and State laws are now in place that all of us have to follow. Accordingly, the Ohio South Board of Directors has chosen to upgrade many of its operating systems and Risk Management processes to meet and comply with these regulations and laws. In addition, the OSYSA Risk Management policy has also been updated to reflect these changes.

It is something we do willingly as a service to our members and for the safety of all of the children involved in our organization.

As a member of Ohio South, we take the liability for these laws off your shoulders and onto ours. Were something to occur within your organization, as long as you are fully compliant we bear the brunt of the anything that comes your way. Through the use of Player's Health and Demosphere, we have introduced to our membership a platform that manages all risk compliance, thus allowing us to take your liability. Our membership has free access to this platform, with the ability to pursue it further as a full registration component for your organization.

The following four Risk Management requirements, called SafeSoccer by Ohio South, are now required by Federal law, State law and/or Ohio South for all member rec and competitive leagues, competitive clubs, and all designated cited adults below involved in Ohio South Youth Soccer. As we head into the 2020 – 2021 Season, it is critical that all leagues and clubs are aware of their obligations.

The following risk requirements will be completed in Player's Health after coaches and other identified adults are added to Demosphere.

PLEASE NOTE: How coaches and other identified adults are entered into Demosphere may be different based on whether or not you are a competitive club or a recreational league, and if your recreational league is using Demosphere as your official registration provider or not. All competitive clubs in Ohio South are required to use Demosphere for player and coach registration.

LINDSAY'S LAW

All players and cited adults as required to register will also be required to sign off on Lindsay's Law. This is done during registration in Demosphere for players and in Player's Health for coaches and other identified adults. Member leagues and clubs will no longer have to collect the physical paperwork for this when using.

ADDITIONAL LINDSAY'S LAW INFORMATION

How do I complete the Lindsay's Law requirements?

During registration you will be required to acknowledge that you have completed the following:

OHIO CONCUSSION LAW: RETURN TO PLAY

All players and cited adults below as required to register will also be required to sign off on Ohio Concussion Law. This is done during registration in Demosphere for players and in Player's Health for coaches and other identified adults. Member leagues and clubs will no longer have to collect the physical paperwork for this.

ADDITIONAL CONCUSSION INFORMATION

How do I complete my concussion training?

You will be required to complete the Concussion Training as a part of your registration. If you have completed Heads Up Concussion Training since July 31, 2019, you will be able to upload a valid certificate of completion at the time of registration. Completing the safety requirements will acknowledge the following:

  • Understand a concussion and the potential consequences of this injury,
  • Recognize concussion signs and symptoms and how to respond,
  • Learn about steps for returning to activity (play and school) after a concussion, and
  • Focus on prevention and preparedness to help keep athletes safe season-to-season.

SAFESPORT

All adults cited below as required to register will also be required to complete SafeSport Training and Education. This will be completed in the Players Health system. In order for your SafeSport training to sync to PH and Demosphere, you must use the same email for all accounts across Demosphere, PH and SafeSport.

Coaches and other identified adults who have completed SafeSport in a prior season will only need to do the refresher course moving forward each season.

How do I complete my SafeSport training?

*Note: if you have previously completed SafeSport training, you MUST register with the same email address in order for the system to identify you and your status.

During the Player’s Health risk registration process, you will be directed to complete the SafeSport training.  You can complete the training at this time.  You can log back into your Demosphere account if you are not able to complete fully at the time of registration.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

All adults cited as required to register in item (1) will also be required to complete a background check. Ohio South uses JDP to run background checks, and necessary adults will submit their check to JDP through Players Health. This is another of our system wide upgrades and investments.

  • For those adults that have not yet had a background check, the background screening results will automatically show in your Players Health and Demosphere profiles once completed by JDP.
  • For those adults that have completed a valid background check that will not expire until after the 2021 -2022 season, the platform will carry over your status.
  • The cost of the check for competitive coaches is $18.00 and will be paid by the end user. Ohio South has elected to bear the cost of all recreational coaches until further notice. Clubs and leagues will have the option to (1) have the individuals pay for the check themselves (common in a lot of other State associations and other sporting entities), (2) reimburse the individuals or (3) clubs can set up an 'account' with Player's Health and get billed per check by a coach or adult in their organization.
  • Based on 2 coaches and 1 admin per team, this works out to approximately $3.00 per player to make them safer. We would hope that most parents would not take issue with OSYSA trying to make the environment safer for their child.
  • Further instructions on background checks, how to pay, etc. will be sent out in the next few weeks.
