We had a great time at the Kohl’s American Cup on August 22nd and 23rd at Clear Creek Park in Cincinnati. This was Ohio South Youth Soccer’s fourth year co-hosting the event with Southeast Cincinnati Soccer Association. We had 49 recreational teams join us from many different Ohio South leagues, including Southeast Cincinnati Soccer Assn, Girls Southeast Soccer Assn, Clermont Central Soccer Assn, Lebanon Youth Soccer, and Teays Valley Youth Soccer. We also had teams from Highland County, Lynchburg/Five Points and Eastgate join us. We had the Kohl’s American Cup Vehicle with it’s interactive inflatable area where the kids could go play between games. The Kohl’s American Cup Event Staff did a great job setting up and running the Kohl’s Village. We also had wonderful face painters join us from Face Painting by Tuesday.
The Kohl’s American Cup tournament has a festival like environment. The tournament gives recreational teams an opportunity to come out and have some fun while also allowing them to get in a few games prior to the start of their league games. There are no winners or losers. Each team plays 4 short small sided games. Every player gets a participation certificate, a goody bag, and a Kohl’s American Cup T-shirt. The cost is kept around $30-$60 per team to allow every team an opportunity to participate. Our U8, U10, and U12 age groups played on Saturday, and our U6 and U14 age groups played on Sunday. This allowed teams to play on one day only which helps teams from other Ohio areas participate without additional hotel expenses.
We would like to thank SCSA President Steve Wilson, Kohl’s American Cup Chairperson Joe Arnold, Todd Zech, Jodi Vigar and family along with all of the other dedicated volunteers at Southeast Cincinnati Soccer Assn for making this event a great success! Without you, this event would not be possible!
