Coaching Course

Information on Hosting an OSYSA Coaching Course

The following information outlines the facility and course requirements for all OSYSA coaching courses.  The hosting organization must guarantee a minimum of 15 participants as identified in the Site Coordinators Instructions.

Classroom requirements

  • Chalkboard or Wet/Dry Board or Flip Chart
  • VCR and TV
  • Tables and chairs or desks
    The classroom or lecture facility should be close to the field.
Field requirements
  • Minimum field space: 50 yards x 50 yards
  • Portable goals with nets
  • Cut grass
  • Players, several youth teams to be made available at various times as coordinated with the CEP Instructor.  The "D" license requires youth players for the practical testing process, however the E and F licenses may require players as designated by the instructor.  The Youth Module course will require players and must be coordinated with the CEP Instructor. 
    In the case of bad weather, a gym may have to be utilized for field sessions.  This would be the case especially for the courses held during November through March.  The gym should big enough to allow realistic training activities to be conducted by the instructor.

The Hosting Process
1. Contact a suitable facility to determine the availability of dates and times.
2. Contact Brett Thompson, Director of Coaching, to identify the availability the requested CEP Instructors and to ensure the dates requested can be coordinated within the OSYSA schedule.
3. Upon approval by the State Office, secure the local facility.
4. The course will be scheduled and advertised on the OSYSA web site and in the Soccer Ohio magazine.  The name, telephone number and email address will be listed as the license Site Coordinator and Point of Contact.  The Site Coordinator will be responsible to disseminating the relevant information to the prospective candidates.
5. Four days before the course, the appropriate number of registration forms, coaching workbooks, and related course materials will be shipped to the Site Coordinator. 
6. After the CEP Instructor is assigned, the Site Coordinator and CEP Instructor will contact each other to discuss particulars for the course.
7. After completion of the course, the Site Coordinator will return the registration forms, unused materials, and final payment for the course to the OSYSA office.
8. OSYSA will email the license to the coach within two weeks of receiving the materials from the administrator.
